Niklasdorf, June 2007
The best available technology is being used to build a modern biological effluent treatment plant at B&B’s Papirnica Vevce works in Slovenia, enabling the bulk of the factory’s effluent to be treated and discharged into the river Ljublianica in future.
This brings Papirnica Vevce into line with the strict EU requirements set out in the IPPC directives ("Council Directive concerning Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control"). The existing effluent treatment plant was no longer able to meet this requirement.
This major investment also secures the future of paper production at the location. The new plant will be designed for an annual production of 120,000 tonnes of paper, and is to be constructed this year. Trial operation is to start towards the end of the year.
The basic design for the new plant was created by the consultants Dr Lengyel ZT GmbH, which is also carrying out the building control and monitoring work. Slovenian experts are involved in implementing the project. The treatment plant itself is being built jointly by the Austrian company GAW GmbH (equipment element) and the Slovenian company SCT d.d. (construction element). Both companies have many years’ experience in constructing effluent treatment plants, and have numerous reference plants in their portfolio.
B&B produces label papers and flexible packaging papers at two locations, in Niklasdorf, Austria, and in Vevce, Slovenia. The innovative company has built up a leading position in the world market in this product segment. This new environmental investment confirms the company management’s commitment to the future of production at the Vevce location in Slovenia.
