Highlight ecology and sustainability

At Interpack, B&B is presenting its packaging papers

Niklasdorf, April 2008

You will find B&B twice at Interpack:
In Hall 7.1, Stand B06, and in
Hall 7a Stand B05 Innovationparc (PDA – Pan-European Brand Design Association)

Much of the exhibition space at B&B will be devoted to the key issues of ecology and sustainability. CO2 emissions (carbon footprint), biodegradability and hygiene standards, these are the new factors against which packing materials are now measured. B&B has acknowledged its responsibility in this regard, and is exhibiting what its engineers and technologists have been able to achieve.

Product presentations of label papers and flexible packaging papers also highlight key ecological aspects, such as:

  • Increasing CO2 carbon capture by increased afforestation in EU15
  • Dramatic reduction in CO2 emissions due to renewable energy
  • Environment and hygiene certification provide transparency and confidence
  • For a clean environment - biodegradable packaging papers

Packaging and label papers must sell, be convenient and reliable in use, reinforce the effectiveness and quality of the product to the end consumer, and minimize environmental impact on disposal after use.

B&B is presenting packaging papers for the following target groups: Food and beverages, consumer goods (non-food), pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

As a sponsor of the PDA (Pan European Brand Design Association), B&B is also exhibiting in Hall 7a Stand B05 (just one floor below the B&B stand).

Pack designers have to take into account the wide-ranging requirements of marketing and environment when creating their designs. Collaboration with pack designers has proved highly beneficial for B&B, since packaging materials have to take account of design aspects as well as the technical demands of printing and packaging machinery.

Trends in packaging entail trends in materials.

Lifestyle trends are also material trends.

LoHaS (Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability) are people who like to enjoy life, but who want to do their bit to preserve resources for everyone by protecting the environment.

Products that hold out the promise of health, enjoyment, quality of life, ecology and sustainability have long been successful. Paper packaging is very much in tune with this trend.

Values underlie change processes. Today’s consumers want to buy products that are consistent with their system of values.

Paper packaging can convey features such as naturalness and authenticity to great effect.

The packaging of a product is its first contact with the user, conveying its distinctive message through the material. The emotional feel conveyed by paper labels and packaging corresponds to the wishes and aspirations of the new middle range of consumers (see Future Institute chart).

The Interpack expo is held only once every 3 years, so it is a good barometer for detecting which trends are affecting the packaging industry most closely right now and in the immediate future.

B&B will be presenting numerous examples at Interpack to show how paper labels and flexible packaging are responding to the new lifestyle trend.
